Description

Crispy, golden brown homemade hash browns that mimic the famous McDonald’s version, made easy with simple ingredients and foolproof techniques.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium Russet potatoes (about 600g)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (optional)
  • Neutral oil for frying (vegetable, sunflower, or avocado)

Instructions

  1. Grate the potatoes and soak in cold water for 5–10 minutes.
  2. Drain and dry thoroughly using a kitchen towel.
  3. Mix the potatoes with cornstarch, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and flour (if using).
  4. Shape into 6 equal patties.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat; fry patties for 3–4 minutes per side.
  6. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain and season with salt before serving hot.

Notes

For extra crispiness, let the grated potatoes sit in the fridge for an hour before cooking.
