Cozy Warm Vanilla Custard Drink – Easy & Caffeine-Free Comfort


Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, ground cinnamon, grated nutmeg, or a cinnamon stick for stirring

Instructions

  1. Carefully separate the egg yolks from the whites. You’ll only be using the yolks in this recipe.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, and a pinch of salt until smooth and slightly pale.
  3. In a small saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk until it’s steaming but not boiling. Stir occasionally to prevent a skin from forming.
  4. Slowly pour about ½ cup of the warm milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly. This helps prevent the eggs from scrambling.
  5. Slowly pour the tempered egg mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining milk. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Pour into mugs, top with whipped cream or cinnamon if desired, and enjoy warm.
