Description
A rich and flavorful brown gravy recipe that doesn’t require any meat drippings, perfect for pouring over mashed potatoes, meatloaf, or roasted veggies.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 cups beef broth (or chicken broth)
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: a splash of heavy cream
Instructions
- Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour until it turns a light golden brown.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking constantly to avoid lumps until the mixture thickens.
- Add onion powder, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and season with salt and pepper. Stir and let simmer for a few minutes.
- If desired, stir in a splash of heavy cream for extra richness.
- Serve the gravy over your favorite comfort foods.
Notes
If the gravy is too thick, add more broth. For a smoother texture, whisk vigorously and ensure the broth is room temperature before adding.
