Description

Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken is a simple yet flavorful dish. Smoky, savory, and slightly sweet, this tender chicken melts in your mouth. It’s perfect for busy days.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups barbecue sauce (your favorite such as Sweet Baby Ray’s, Trader Joe’s, mild, spicy, garlicky, etc.)
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic (or to taste, about 45 cloves, finely minced)
  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • Green onions (sliced into thin rounds; optional for garnishing)
  • Sesame seeds (optional for garnishing)

Instructions

  1. Spray the insert of your 6-quart or 7-quart slow cooker with cooking spray, although it’s optional.
  2. Add the barbecue sauce, honey, and garlic, and stir to combine.
  3. Remove approximately 1/2 cup of the sauce, cover, and place in the refrigerator for later use.
  4. Add the chicken and toss to coat it evenly in the sauce.
  5. Arrange the chicken in as even of a flat layer as possible.
  6. Cover and slow cook on HIGH for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or on LOW for about 5 to 6 hours, until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165F.
  7. If desired, shred the chicken after cooking by placing it on a cutting board and using two forks.
  8. Add the reserved 1/2 cup sauce mixture to the shredded chicken and toss to coat.
  9. Garnish with green onions, sesame seeds, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if desired.
  10. Serve over rice, mashed potatoes, with veggies, in enchiladas, tortillas, or sliders.
