Description

Savory Apple Thyme Tart is a delightful twist on classic apple dishes, combining rich Gruyere cheese with caramelized onions for a comforting experience.


Ingredients

  • 1 package Pie Dough
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion
  • 1 cup Crème Fraîche
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard
  • 1 cup Gruyere Cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Thyme
  • 2 medium Apples
  • to taste Salt and Pepper

Instructions

  1. Roll out your pie dough on a floured surface until it’s about 1/8 inch thick, then press it into two 6-inch tart pans and chill them for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Line each tart crust with parchment paper and fill with pie weights or dried beans; blind bake for 20 minutes and then bake for an additional 10 minutes until golden.
  4. Melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter and 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat, then add sliced onions and caramelize for 16 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, combine 1 cup of crème fraîche, 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard, and 1 cup of grated Gruyere; mix in caramelized onions, thyme, and diced apples.
  6. Pour the filling mixture into each cooled crust and distribute evenly.
  7. Bake the assembled tart(s) at 350°F (175°C) for 25 to 30 minutes until bubbly.
  8. Let the tart cool for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

  • Feel free to substitute Gruyere with Swiss or fontina.
