Description
Delicious red velvet cookies with an optional cream cheese frosting.

- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (optional)
- For the cream cheese frosting (optional):
- 4 ounces cream cheese (softened)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Beat in the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in the white chocolate chips if using.
- Scoop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- To make the frosting, beat together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth and creamy.
- Spread or pipe the frosting onto the cooled cookies if desired.

- Store cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresh.
- Adjust the amount of food coloring for desired color intensity.
