Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 4 cups all-purpose or bread flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) yeast
  • Oil for frying
  • Sugar for coating
  • Jam, chocolate hazelnut spread, or whipped cream for filling

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, buttermilk, egg, and melted butter.
  2. Add half of the flour, sugar, and salt. Make an indentation in the mixture and place the yeast inside.
  3. If using a stand mixer, mix until forming dough. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  4. On a floured surface, roll out the dough and cut into shapes.
  5. Let the doughnuts rise for about 30 minutes.
  6. Heat oil to 350°F (180°C) and fry until golden brown.
  7. Drain excess oil and coat with sugar or glaze as desired.
