- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 4 cups all-purpose or bread flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) yeast
- Oil for frying
- Sugar for coating
- Jam, chocolate hazelnut spread, or whipped cream for filling
Instructions
- Combine warm water, buttermilk, egg, and melted butter.
- Add half of the flour, sugar, and salt. Make an indentation in the mixture and place the yeast inside.
- If using a stand mixer, mix until forming dough. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough and cut into shapes.
- Let the doughnuts rise for about 30 minutes.
- Heat oil to 350°F (180°C) and fry until golden brown.
- Drain excess oil and coat with sugar or glaze as desired.
