Description

This German Apple Pancake is a cozy, oven-baked breakfast with caramelized apples, a soft custard-like center, and lightly crisp edges.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar
  • Maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place an oven-safe skillet over medium heat.
  2. Melt butter in skillet. Add apples, sugar, and cinnamon. Cook about 5 minutes until softened and caramelized.
  3. Whisk eggs, flour, milk, salt, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Pour batter over apples in skillet.
  5. Transfer skillet to oven and bake 15–20 minutes until puffed and golden.
  6. Carefully invert onto a plate so apples are on top. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with maple syrup.
