Description

Quick and delicious Onion Beef Fried Rice, a one-pan wonder perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked white rice (preferably day-old)
  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups mixed vegetables (like peas, carrots, and corn)
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Rice: If you haven’t already, cook your rice ahead of time and let it cool. Day-old rice is the best here; it’s less sticky and creates the perfect texture.
  2. Sauté the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Toss in your sliced beef, sprinkle with a little salt and pepper, and cook until browned (about 3-5 minutes). Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside.
  3. Onion and Garlic Party: Using the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once hot, throw in your chopped onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until it becomes translucent. Then, toss in the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
  4. Veggie Time: Add the mixed vegetables to the skillet and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until tender but vibrant.
  5. Bring It All Together: Return the beef to the skillet, add the cooked rice, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Stir well to combine all the flavors, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Finish with a sprinkle of chopped green onions and serve hot.

Notes

Ensure your rice is cold and a little dry for the best texture. Feel free to customize with your choice of protein or leftover vegetables.
