Description

A nostalgic, fudgy brownie recipe reminiscent of school cafeteria treats. Quick, easy, and perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1/4 cup softened butter (for icing)
  • 1/4 cup canned or regular milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder (for icing)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
  • Dash of salt (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
  3. Melt 1 cup of butter in a saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, 1/2 cup cocoa powder, and a dash of salt.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, 2 cups of sugar, and mix well. Add 4 eggs and 4 teaspoons of vanilla, mixing until combined.
  6. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  7. If using, fold in 1 cup of chopped nuts.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Once cooled, prepare the icing by mixing 1/4 cup softened butter, 1/4 cup milk, 1/4 cup cocoa powder, and 3 cups powdered sugar until smooth. Frost the brownies once cooled.
  10. Cut into squares and enjoy!

For best flavor and texture, allow brownies to sit for several hours or overnight before serving.
