Description

Irresistible Lemon Sugar Baked Donuts that are quick, easy, and delicious with a zesty lemon flavor and a sweet sugar coating.


Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
  • 1/2 cup sugar (for coating)
  • 4 teaspoons grated lemon zest (for coating)
  • 6 tablespoons butter, melted (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and spray two 6-cavity donut pans with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, stir together buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and grated lemon zest until combined.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Evenly divide the batter between the prepared donut pans.
  6. Bake for 7-9 minutes or until lightly golden. Let cool for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
  7. For the sugar coating, pulse together sugar and lemon zest until fine. Dip warm donuts in melted butter, then in the sugar mixture.

Notes

For extra fluffy donuts, let the batter sit for 10 minutes before baking. These donuts can be customized with different zests or add-ins.
