Description

Baked Beans from Scratch are a comforting staple that combines rich, smoky flavors with tender beans. This hearty dish is perfect for cozy nights or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup dried navy beans (soaked overnight)
  • 1 medium sweet onion (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 4 oz bacon or smoked ham hock (diced)
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak the dried navy beans overnight in cold water.
  2. Drain and rinse the beans, then place them in a large pot. Cover with fresh water by about two inches.
  3. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to low and simmer until tender, about 45 minutes.
  4. Sauté chopped onions in a skillet over medium heat until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  5. Add diced bacon or ham hock and cook until crispy.
  6. Combine cooked beans with sautéed onions and bacon in a large bowl. Mix in diced tomatoes, maple syrup, Dijon mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  7. Transfer everything back into the pot or an oven-safe dish. Bake uncovered at 325°F for about 2 hours.
