- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg

- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cups beef broth (low sodium)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (for the gravy)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (slurry)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles (optional for serving)
- Fresh parsley (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Prep your ingredients: Dice onions into ¼-inch pieces.
- Make the patties: In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form into four equal-sized patties.
- Cook the patties: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook patties for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned. Set aside.
- Prepare the gravy: In the skillet, add butter, then add sliced onions and sauté until softened (about 5-7 minutes). Stir in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, bringing to a simmer.
- Thicken the gravy: Stir in the cornstarch slurry and season with salt and pepper.
- Recombine: Return hamburger steaks to the skillet, cover with gravy, and simmer on low for 10 minutes until fully cooked.
- Serve: Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, garnished with freshly chopped parsley.
