Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (or cinnamon)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- Oil for frying (canola or vegetable)
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and melted butter. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a pot or deep skillet over medium heat.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick, and cut out donuts using a cutter or glass.
- Fry the donuts for about 1-2 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
- Transfer the fried donuts to a wire rack to cool slightly.
- In another bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Dip the warm donuts into the glaze and let rest on a rack until it sets.
Notes
If the glaze is too thick, add more milk; if too thin, stir in more powdered sugar. Save scraps from donut cutouts to fry as donut holes.
