Description

This homemade garlic knots recipe features soft, buttery knots with rich garlic and herb flavor. Perfect as an appetizer or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 and 3/4 cups bread flour
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 envelope active dry yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 and 1/2 cups warm water (110 – 115°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup fresh parsley, minced
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons garlic salt or garlic powder
  • 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese, finely grated

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer, combine bread flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Whisk gently.
  2. Turn the mixer on low and slowly add warm water and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Mix until a dough ball forms.
  3. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead gently until smooth. Form into a ball.
  4. Grease a bowl with 2 teaspoons olive oil. Place dough in the bowl, cover, and let rise for 90 minutes.
  5. Turn out dough, divide into two parts, and let rest for 10 minutes.
  6. Dust rounds with flour, cut into quarters, and then halve for a total of 16 pieces. Shape into knots.
  7. Place knots on a baking sheet, cover loosely, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 450°F. Melt butter, add garlic, and simmer for 1-2 minutes. Stir in parsley and garlic salt.
  9. Remove plastic wrap from knots, brush with garlic butter, and bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let cool for 5 minutes, brush with remaining garlic butter, sprinkle with Parmesan, and serve warm.
