Description
A simple and flaky pie crust recipe that serves as a perfect base for any filling, ideal for novice bakers or those short on time.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (plus a little extra for rolling)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 6–8 tbsp ice water
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar.
- Add the chilled, diced butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough holds together but isn’t sticky.
- Gather the dough into a ball, flatten it into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap, and chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
- Roll out the chilled disc to about 1/8-inch thickness on a floured surface.
- Carefully place your rolled-out crust into a pie pan, letting the excess hang over the edges.
- Trim any excess overhang and crimp the edges.
- Poke holes in the bottom and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden.
Notes
Chill your tools for a flakier texture. You can add spices like cinnamon or nutmeg to the flour for extra flavor.
