Description

Delicious homemade sugar-glazed donuts that are soft, fluffy, and perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar (for glaze)
  • 23 tbsp milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix warm milk with yeast and a bit of sugar, then let it sit until bubbly.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, beaten eggs, melted butter, and mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1.5-2 hours, until doubled in size.
  6. Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thick and cut with a donut cutter.
  7. Let the shaped donuts rest for 30 minutes.
  8. Heat vegetable oil to 375°F and fry donuts for about 1 minute on each side until golden brown.
  9. Remove from oil and let cool on wire racks.
  10. For the glaze, mix confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Dip warm donuts into the glaze.
