Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 cup confectioners’ sugar (for glaze)
- 2–3 tbsp milk (for glaze)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix warm milk with yeast and a bit of sugar, then let it sit until bubbly.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
- Add the yeast mixture, beaten eggs, melted butter, and mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1.5-2 hours, until doubled in size.
- Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thick and cut with a donut cutter.
- Let the shaped donuts rest for 30 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil to 375°F and fry donuts for about 1 minute on each side until golden brown.
- Remove from oil and let cool on wire racks.
- For the glaze, mix confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Dip warm donuts into the glaze.
Notes
Try adding different fillings like jam or pastry cream for a delicious twist.
