Crispy Coconut Tofu with Spicy Sauce is a delightful vegan appetizer featuring crispy tofu and a fiery sauce that will impress your guests.


Ingredients

  • 1 block Firm Tofu (Well-pressed for best results)
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch (For coating the tofu)
  • 1/4 cup Coconut Oil (For frying; vegetable oil as a substitute)
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce (Tamari for gluten-free)
  • 2 tablespoons Honey or Maple Syrup (Maple syrup for vegan option)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper (Adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder (Fresh garlic can be used)
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds (For garnish)
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped Scallions (For fresh garnish)

Instructions

  1. Begin by draining and pressing the firm tofu to remove excess moisture. Cut the tofu into evenly sized cubes.
  2. In a bowl, mix together cornstarch and your favorite spices. Roll each tofu cube in this mixture until evenly coated.
  3. Heat coconut oil in a pan over medium-high heat until hot. Add the coated tofu cubes and fry until golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. In a separate mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, honey (or maple syrup), cayenne pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk until well blended.
  5. Once the tofu is cooked, pour the spicy sauce over it in the pan. Stir gently to coat the tofu and cook for an additional minute.
  6. Plate the Coconut Tofu, garnishing with sesame seeds and chopped scallions as desired.
