Description

A delightful guide to creating enchanting candy cane cookies that capture the spirit of the holidays.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Red gel food coloring (for coloring half the dough)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine butter and sugar, beating until smooth and fluffy (about 5 minutes).
  2. Add egg, vanilla, and peppermint extract, mixing until well blended (about 3 minutes).
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture until combined (about 5 minutes).
  4. Divide the dough in half; color one half with red gel food coloring.
  5. Wrap each portion in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  6. Roll equal pieces of red and white dough into ropes and twist them together to form candy canes (approximately 20 minutes).
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and bake for 8-10 minutes on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Allow cookies to cool on trays before serving (about 10 minutes).

Notes

For added variety, try substituting chocolate mint or incorporate sprinkles into the dough.
