A classic American dessert made with layers of creamy vanilla pudding, fresh bananas, and crunchy vanilla wafers.

- 4 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 box vanilla wafers
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 cup whipped cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Combine the sugar, flour, and salt in a saucepan.
- Whisk in the milk and cook over medium heat until thickened.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Beat the egg yolks in a bowl and temper with a bit of the hot pudding mixture.
- Mix the egg yolks back into the saucepan and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
- Layer the vanilla wafers, banana slices, and pudding in a serving dish.
- Top with whipped cream and chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
For best results, use very ripe bananas and let the pudding chill for several hours before serving to enhance the flavors.
