Description

This Apple Upside Down Cake combines the sweetness of caramelized apples with a tender, buttery cake, creating a delightful dessert perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges.
  2. In your 9-inch round cake pan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, remove from heat and sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the melted butter. Stir gently until combined, then arrange the apple slices on top in a circular pattern.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and milk, mixing until smooth. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter evenly over the arranged apples in the cake pan, using a spatula to smooth the top. Place the cake pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven, and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Carefully run a knife around the edges, then place a serving plate on top of the cake pan and flip it upside down.
